Industry Surveys
The Foundation for Fraternal Excellence believes in coordinating and sharing research to help inform data-driven decision making within the fraternal industry. To deliver on this strategic priority, FFE regularly surveys members to gather fundraising and management data and reports out on insights gained.
The Foundation for Fraternal Excellence has been conducting an annual industry survey of its members since the early 1990s. FFE prioritizes gathering and sharing information about how fraternal foundations are performing in the areas of fundraising and management. Survey results are provided to participating groups for their interpretation, evaluation and benchmarking. The survey assessment period opens in late October and closes in late January.
INDUSTRY SURVEY
Conducted annually
This project is truly beneficial to fraternal foundations. The insights provided directly reflect the fraternal fundraising industry. This annually conducted survey has had more than 70% participation from FFE member organizations over the last five years. The final results are shared only with those groups that participate in the survey with 100% completion.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS SURVEY UPDATE
As part of FFE’s ongoing efforts to provide meaningful and efficient industry benchmarking, the standalone Compensation & Benefits Survey has been discontinued beginning in 2026.
While the survey has offered valuable insights over the years, participation trends and the availability of broader compensation benchmarking resources have made it increasingly difficult to provide data that is sufficiently representative across the fraternal foundation community. Following a review of member needs and survey participation, FFE has determined that workforce-related metrics are best collected through the annual Industry Survey.
To preserve key organizational insights, select questions related to staff retention, workforce composition, fundraising staffing capacity, executive leadership structure, and executive tenure will be incorporated into the Industry Survey. This streamlined approach reduces reporting burden while continuing to provide valuable data on staffing and organizational trends.
Organizations seeking compensation and benefits benchmarking are encouraged to utilize established external resources, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals Compensation & Benefits Report, Pennington’s State of the Industry report, Chronicle of Philanthropy compensation resources, and higher education advancement compensation surveys.
FFE thanks the many organizations that contributed to the Compensation & Benefits Survey over the years. Their participation has helped strengthen understanding of organizational trends and practices across the fraternal foundation industry.
