Building a $1M Scholarship Program Mary Kate Smith, Programs Director, Kappa Alpha Theta Scholarships are one of the only tangible benefits fraternity and sorority foundations can offer to their members. If you are not already prioritizing your organization’s scholarship program, it’s time to do so! In this session, we will take a deep dive into Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation’s scholarship program and its incredible growth over the past few years. As part of Kappa Alpha Theta’s 2024 Grand Convention, the Theta Foundation team designed events and immersive experiences to further engage collegians and alumnae. The Theta for Good Breakfast was held to celebrate the success of Theta’s college chapter giving program, while the Pansy Party brought more than 100 Theta Foundation donors together, those attending Convention as well as local Thetas not registered. Theta Foundation capitalized on additional engagement opportunities related to their onsite Pansy Patch fundraiser along with their ability to capture video testimonials. Overall engagement, in a multitude of ways, has increased since the implementation of these events. We talk about market volatility, growth and return, risk, and spending, but how often do you hear about broad volunteer engagement and building donor trust through investments and investment policy? Fraternal foundation volunteers come from many walks of life. They have a passion to serve and want to make a meaningful contribution to the success of the organization they love. Can you really empower volunteers around investments and create meaningful engagement opportunities for people who don’t work in the financial world? In a word, yes. Using events from 2025 as the basis for discussion, we will engage attendees in conversation about the framework and practices around investments that can support both volunteer engagement and donor stewardship. Tools include the Decoded Investment Policy, volunteer on-boarding, ways to share partner expertise for the benefit of many donors, and donor stewardship touchpoints. Pi Beta Phi Foundation will share examples of how this framework is implemented and its results. We will also touch on building trust in volunteer/staff/vendor relationships and the tangible benefits. Learning Outcomes: – How to leverage relationships with finance partners to enhance volunteer engagement and stewardship of foundation assets. – Ways to increase donor and volunteer trust in times of market and economic volatility. – Framework and processes to build trust and engage donors and volunteers. |
